Behind the Scenes of the Victoria's Secret 2011 Fashion Show

An up-close look at how models like Miranda Kerr and Chanel Iman prep for the Victoria's Secret fashion show By Elle

Each year, Victoria’s Secret whips up a limited edition pink robe for their cast of Angels.  Backstage, Lindsay Ellingson shows off this year’s hot pink version with crystal wings embedded in the back.

Constance Jablonski geared up for her second year as a Victoria’s Secret angel with a big lunch: “Vegetables, some chicken for protein, a big orange juice for vitamins, and some coffee because I am really tired.”

Though some of the models on the glitter runway are full time Victoria’s Secret angels, a few are better known for their high fashion editorial work.  Anja Rubik says she doesn’t feel the pressure, “I take it very easy, there are girls here that do VS every day and they are the Angels.  They take it a little more seriously, they are really prepped for it—for us it’s just another show.”

We asked Chanel Iman what she splurged on for fall and, fittingly, her answer was Chanel!  “I bought an amazing coat from Chanel, I only buy one really nice purchase per year!”  But she left it at home for the unseasonably warm evening and said she’d turn to her other favorite designer for her after party look: “I have the sickest Tom Ford dress.”

Every 30 minutes or so one angel was asked to disrobe and pose for the slew of backstage reporters, photographers and video cameras.  Adriana Lima really hammed it up for the cameras, dancing on the table before settling into this oh-so-natural pose.

Pop quiz! Which model, when asked if walking the Victoria’s Secret show made her nervous, answered, “I was born naked!”

Erin Heatherton!  Not that she’s totally opposed to covering up.  She just bought a pair of “thigh-high boots from Valentino, they have studs.  It’s a bit much…”
Candice Swanepoel was ready to go backstage.  The South African model was tasked with opening the show wearing a set of blue and purple wings during the ballet-themed sequence.

Seeing Jay-Z and Kanye on the glitter runway was a bit of a repeat for Doutzen Kroes.  The model caught their peformance at Madison Square Garden the night before, “My favorite part was ‘Otis,’ I love that song!”
An enthusiastic audience rocked out to Maroon 5’s “Moves Like Jagger,” but no one was as excited as front man Adam Levine’s girlfriend, Anne Vyalitsyna.  She missed his high five, but when they reached the end of the runway he planted a big kiss on her cheek for the cameras!

Alessandra Ambrosio’s wings are covered in 10,000 crystals and, if for sale, would cost about $100,000.  That bra, however?  You can snap up your own at any Victoria’s Secret!

Behati Prinsloo may have been the only model to admit to pre-show nerves.  “I get nervous for the show!  Especially before I walk out, but I like being nervous—it makes it more exciting.”
This year, she had to prep more than usual, “I had to download this song Moves like Jagger because we have to lip-sync to it and I didn’t have any of his [Maroon 5’s] music. I’m not a huge fan but everyone does their own thing!”

Miranda Kerr—the only Victoria’s Secret angel at last night’s show to be supported by both a $2.5 million bra and an award-winning actor.

Heatherton led the superhero pack of models during Kanye West’s crowd-pleasing performance of Stronger.  “In 2007, I was supposed to perform this song,” West said.  “Then my mom passed away. She was my superhero—now she’s my superangel.”

Nicki Minaj was the only girl on the runway to wear pants, dance in sneakers and get a full crew of hot male backup dancers.  Her energetic “Super Bass” provided the soundtrack for the Pink segment and closed the show.
